Wow, 1st quarter is over! Christmas is just around the corner. Now that the college applications have been mailed it is time to start thinking about how you are going to pay for college. There are just a few more new scholarships listed in this newsletter. Remember this should not be the only place you look for scholarships; there are many more places to search from. The internet is the absolute BEST place. I have listed a few more new web sites towards the end of this newsletter. Please take advantage of this information! The Gates Millennium ScholarsAward: Full tuition, 4 years Eligibility: Must be African American, American Indian, Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic. U.S. Citizen or Legal permanent resident must maintain at least a 3.30. Applicant must plan to attend an accredited college or University as full-time in fall 2005. Must also have significant financial need and demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community services, extracurricular activities or other activities. The William S. Davila Scholarship Fund Award: $1,000 - $2,500 Eligibility: Students working in the food industry or sons and daughters of parents working in the food industry. Individuals working in a fast food or regular restaurant ARE NOT eligible to apply. Contact: www.davila.scholarshipamerica.org Deadline: January 20, 2005
Education is Freedom Scholarships Award: $2,000 Eligibility: High school seniors with a minimum GPA of 3.0 demonstrating financial need. Contact: www.educationisfreedom.org – no paper applications are available. Deadline: January 20, 2006
Cal State Fullerton, President’s Scholars Award: Full tuition, 4 years, cool incidentals including lap-top, book allowance, etc. Eligibility: minimum 3.75 GPA in grades 10/11, and/or specified ACT or SAT score, application to CSF prior to applying for this scholarship (deadline December 5th), legal resident, school/community contributor, outstanding school achievement. Hispanic Scholarship Fund Award: $1,000 - $2,500 Eligibility: Be of Hispanic heritage, 2.7 G.P.A., plan to enroll in a degree-seeking program at an accredited US college or university. Deadline: Varies between Oct – Feb 15th. Contact: Mr. Reynaga Website: www.hsf.net
Salvadorian-American Leadership & Educational Fund Award: $500 - $2,500 Eligibility: Must be of Central American and other Latino background, must demonstrate financial need, must have a minimum of 2.5 G.P.A., must have a history of community involvement and be willing to give back by becoming a mentor to a high school student, must be accepted to a four college or university. AAU Youth Excel Program Scholarship Amateur Athletic Union Award: $500 - $3,500 Eligibility: High School senior athlete who maintained a 2.5 G.P.A., must participate in at least one sanctioned high school sport and show involvement in the community. Persevering through adversity is the key ingredient in the awarding of this scholarship.
